Named one of the most bio-diverse places in the world, Corcovado National Park attracts nature and wildlife lovers from all over. While many visit the park to hike and camp, day trips are also a wonderful option. Tours to the various ranger stations within the park allow guests to explore and see the dazzling diversity of wildlife in a natural habitat.

Whether you decide to hike the epic trails from La Leona to Sirena, or opt for shorter trails at San Pedrillo or Dos Brazos ranger stations, the animals of Corcovado will be a delight. With the right guide, a wide range of monkeys and birds can be seen in addition to stunning trees and flora. The ocean is a natural aquarium as well, with sightings of humpback whales and dolphins not uncommon.

While it is possible to hike the 163.7 mile2 park on your own, tours are the best way for visitors to experience the awe-inspiring biodiversity of this incredible place. Tours to the different ranger stations include park entrance fees, boat transfers and a bilingual guide.

Our most popular tours to Corcovado include a trip to the beautiful San Pedrillo San Pedrillo Station Rangers Station. This is the closest Ranger Station to Drake Bay and is reached via a scenic 25 minute boat ride. Surrounded by Primary Rainforest, this beautiful area includes rocky beaches, streams, waterfalls and a pristine beach perfect for swimming. There is a wealth of wildlife to see here including monkeys, birds, and 4 species of wild cat including the endangered Baird’s Tapir and Jaguar.

Depending on the season, this is also a great location to spot whales and dolphins. The whales that can be seen are humpback whales and sometimes sei and killer whales (orcas). The dolphins include spinner, bottlenose, rough-tooth and Risso’s.

A typical tour to the San Pedrillo Ranger Station includes a walk along park trails with your guide pointing out the amazing flora and fauna that is found in this rainforest paradise. It is a great place to see three-toed and two-toed sloths, spider monkeys, agoutis and the incredible scarlet macaws. You will also be able to observe 4 species of turtles including the green, olive ridley and hawksbill.

This is a highly immersive and exciting experience and it is hard to find a more memorable activity for your Costa Rica vacation. Almost all of our guests that come to Drake Bay Getaway for 3 days choose this tour as one of the highlights of their vacation. Those that stay longer are often able to squeeze in additional tours such as visiting Isla del Cano or the Sirena Ranger Station. Our clients rarely leave without feeling that their time here has been life-changing!
